A balanced diet for the tumbler looks like equal parts
- Carrot tops and apple cores to equal parts coffee husks and fresh manure
- Food scraps and fresh grass clippings to equal parts dried leaves and shredded paper
- Coffee grounds and banana peels to equal parts wood chips and fresh grass clippings
- Potato and carrot peels to equal parts dried pasta and paper towel

The tumbler has two chambers so that you can
- Add garden scraps to one side and food scraps to the other
- Let one side mature while you fill the other
- More air can enter the compost
- You can keep your pet waste separate

Whenever your kitchen scraps container is full you should:
- Pour the food scraps into the working chamber
- Scatter dry brown scraps into the working chamber
- Mix new scraps into the compost with 3 or 4 tumbles (takes 30 seconds or less)

If your tumbler becomes clumpy and heavy to turn you should:
- Leave the air vents open to allow excess moisture to drain out
- Break up clumps using a garden tool
- Add more browns including shredded cardboard, sugar cane mulch or dry leaves

You should AVOID composting:
- Fruit and veg scraps
- Small amounts of cooked food
- Large amounts of oil, meat, gum leaves or pine needles
- Dried grass clippings, wood chips or non recyclable paper like used paper towels
